Each month, Mocha Biz Loudoun selects a business to be recognized on our web site and social media pages. It gives our patrons an opportunity to get to know our member businesses a little better and gives the business an opportunity to share their story. This month, our spotlight is on Code Success and owner Nancy Finley Barbour. Nancy is also the Founder of Mocha Biz Loudoun.
Mocha Biz Loudoun: Ms. Barbour, Tell us about your background and your decision to start Code Success
As a Senior Consultant with over 30 years in Corporate America, I am frequently the only African American female on my team. As I was promoted to senior roles, young African American women would seek me out about how I got there and what it takes to advance in the company. I saw the need for executive training and mentoring for young women and started Code Success in 2007.
MBL: What are the biggest trends you’re seeing in your industry right now?
Nancy Finley Barbour: Although women are more prevalent in the workforce, women and African Americans are still scarce in higher level positions, especially in the Information Technology field, which is my specialty. From my experience, I believe the reason we are not there is because we do not do the things that put us on the path to succeed and get past the mental and physical isolation of being the only minority in the room.
MBL: What is your most popular products or services?
Nancy Finley Barbour: Code Success’s most popular product is small group workshops on topics that help women advance in their careers. Examples include Executive Presence, Branding, Social Media, and Mentor/Mentee Relationships. Also, Code Success co-hosted a successful ’24 Hours to Transform Your Business & Career’ conference in 2016. We look forward to the 2nd Annual conference on Saturday, July 29, 2017 in Reston, VA.
MBL: Who can benefit the most from your services?
Nancy Finley Barbour: Women who want to advance in their careers and are looking for the tools and education to get them there. Newly added focus on millennials because there is a misnomer that they do not have what it takes to make it in corporate America due to their perceived casual way of living.
MBL: Give us an example of how you ‘Wow’ your customers
Nancy Finley Barbour: I’m able to use my experience to help women advance because I’ve been there. I give specific examples of what you should and should not do in corporate America. By working in small groups, I’m able to provide direct attention and give them tools to take action. For the 24 Hours Conference last year, we provided direct information they could use immediately for their careers. I recently saw one of the 2016 participants and she said she has taken action on nearly all of the topics we discussed at the conference and it has changed her life.
MBL: We can see why your tag line is: “Success your way. No Excuses”. Are there any additional resources you’d like to share with our readers?
