The Virginia Leadership Institute held their ten year anniversary celebration at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. on September 22, 2016. VLI is a 501c3 nonpartisan foundation dedicated to increasing the number of Black elected and appointed officials and appointed leaders in across the nation by grooming leaders who are prepared to be effective elected and appointed officials through consultations, training, mentoring, tracking, and networking. During the event, two Loudoun County residents were honored:
  • Kenya Savage, a trusted community leader, with a reputation for working at the grassroots level with parents, teachers, and administrators on ideas and solutions that illustrate how together we can better advocate for our students.

  • Phyllis Randall, Chair of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors. Ms. Randall is the first African American to serve as Board Chair, an elected position. She serves on the Board’s Finance/Government Operations and Economic Development Committee, the Joint Board and School Board Committee, and the transportation and Land Use Committee.
